Huejutla, Mexico is a rural area with extremely high cervical cancer rates and outdated dental facilities. ACRC was introduced to the Huejutla Centenario Rotary Club through contacts with the Rotary Clubs of Austin and Georgetown. The RI Foundation offers a matching grant program when at least 2 clubs from different countries partner on a project. Apply for the grant with funds contributed from each club and each club's district and the dollars multiply fast. An ACRC contribution of $3,000 matched with money from the Huejutla Club, both districts, and the RI Foundation is enabling a $16,000 project.
In 2009, the citizens of Huejulta and surrounding areas are getting an custom built trailer to be used as a mobile cancer screening unit. In addition, the government dentist office will be receiving a new x-ray machine and dental equipment. These items are expected to serve 28,000 women with cancer screening and increase the overall quality of dental care in the area.
